Media notes
Fearless near people. Smaller than White-breasted Nuthatch common in garden. Very active movement. Ate black oil seed, peanuts and suet.
Observation details
Bird flew from ground to suet cake, then to peanut feeder and mixed seed. It brushed my shoulder when it flew to the feeders. It may have been feeding on the seed on the ground spilled from the feeder. In the afternoon I saw a second Red-breasted Nuthatch in the backyard feeders, some 100 feet from the sighting in the morning. Could not tell if it was the same bird or another individual. This the first time I have seen this bird species in my garden. The garden in use by me for two decades.
