Observation details
First discovered yesterday. Immature bird in rather advanced plumage, with deep bluish-purple feathers coming in on the on the underparts and glossy green wings and back. Head still brown with a beady, dark eye. Pale stripe down the front of the bird, creating the impression of a snazzy blue vest when viewed head on. Frontal shield beginning to turn blue, bill very dull red with a yellowish tip. Bright white undertail coverts, yellow legs and long, spindly toes. Originally hiding in dense foliage on the shoreline near the LeFrak Center. Eventually came out to strut and swim in the open, to the delight of those assembled
