Observation details

Great looks at this adult yet very small Heron. I watched it for 18 minutes while it was perched on a bent over cattail stalk. It turned its' head toward me only once and I did not see it fly or even lift its' wings. Dark cap & back. Wings at rest showed a narrow dark top edge and the rest of the wing was buff colored. There was a white line separating the uppermost dark edge of the wing from the back of the bird. Yellow legs and bill except that the top part of upper mandible was quite dark. Black pupil surrounded by a yellow iris. The sides of the face and neck were also buff colored. Throat and breast were whitish and the breast had buff colored streaks.
