Media notes
screenshots from 8mm video footage shot through a spotting scope to get more magnification.
Observation details
The included images are very low resolution because they are screenshots from 8mm video footage that was filmed through a scope eyepiece to get more magnification. The most useful images are those showing the shape of the primaries being broad and more rounded than Ruby-throated Hummingbird and the tail only projecting slightly beyond the primaries. In addition to this, when the bird hovered in place, it pumped it's tail continuously in rapid succession which was noticeably different from any Ruby-throated Hummingbird. Also, conditions on Oct 27 were sunny and a few observers on Oct 27 did manage to see a bit of violet color showing among the lowest dark feathers in the throat.
