NOTES: Initially 15-18 m in canopy of 15 meter-tall tree over open, savanna-like cerrado with scattered trees separated by open grassland; no response to initial playback, but after it returned to area, it did a circle around me following playback, often 3-5 meters up in lower trees; well seen at this time; mostly overcast, calm, 80¡ F; BP-2 in flat position; embedded announcement; ID from tape by J. M. E. Vielliard as Elaenia chiriquensis (song same as JV 460/2a E. cristata and WRS 006/6 and WRS 006/7 E. chiriquensis) but quite different from E. chiriquensis in LNS collection (cuts #34111, 34112, 34120, 34131 from Distrito Federal, Brazil). Almost identical to Elaenia cristata recorded in LNS #85621 recorded in Brazil. NOTE in an e-mail from CAM: While going through cuts recently, I had two recordings reidentified. Could you please change the database entries for the cuts below to reflect these changes. Also could you put into the notes field that both were identified from the tape by Kevin J. Zimmer. Cut #117144 - change Elaenia cristata to Elaenia chiriquensis with a confidence of 95%. Other Behaviors: Advertise. Habitat: Evergreen Forest, Savannah, Hedgerow, Edge.
