Black Phoebe calling in willows as it foraged. HiQ recording app set at high gain -- too hot a recording. Cow at 12 seconds. Handling noise.
Observation details
I parked just south of bridge and heard the call as soon as my engine was off. Black Phoebe was calling and foraging from willow overhanging bridge. It caught a dragonfly under the bridge and ate it. Photos. Heard loud and clear, seen well. No wind, pleasant temperature. It foraged and called east (downstream) and west (upstream) of the bridge. I did not use any playback, pishing or do anything else to disturb it -- as per ABA Code of Birding Ethics. Please respect that no playback or pishing or harassing guideline with rare birds especially. Although it's not been reported in the interim, it seems likely this is the same bird I found here this spring (2018), https://ebird.org/view/checklist/S42556779 and that was likely the same bird found here Fall of 2017. https://ebird.org/view/checklist/S39169720 That September 2017 "find" might be based on someone else's previous sightings that had not been submitted to eBird. I've twice spoken with a birder who says they photographed a Black Phoebe here on each of the last couple years, though not in winter. I've not yet seen the photographs.
