Observation details
Today we nailed down at least some of the actively feeding auklets in Captain's Bay and along the shore between the S-curve and the airport as Whiskered Auklets. After spending a lot of time with them, we eventually saw some birds that had the white plumes behind and in front of the eye. Once again we noticed thin wispy creststhat tended to fall back against the crown on many birds. We also saw several birds that had whitish undertail coverts when seen in flight. the bills on all birds seen well were small.I feel that most of the auklets we saw today were Whiskered Auklets. This pathetically poor photo was the best I could do given the poor light, extremely high winds, movement of the vehicle, and the constant diving of the birds.
