NOTES: LNS note: According to Paul Perkins, the '8-Ball' hydrophone used is a Clevite hydrophone that originally was used on early sonobuoys. It may have a limited frequency response. I believe Paul Perkins voice may be heard in this recording, and perhaps Howard Winn's; they may be the recordist, rather the Fish and Mowbray. I definitely do not hear Marie Fish's voice. 17Jul2003 SAS. NML studies, NML, 3 Oct. 1966-Feb. 1967. Single adult held in wooden tank for over four months: like captive triglids, easily stimulated to bursts of barking by mild duress, netting, and handling. Fish, M.P. and W.H. Mowbray. 1970. Sounds of the Western North Atlantic fishes: a reference file of biological underwater sounds. Johns Hopkins Press. Baltimore. p. 162. Reel notes: "Flying gurnard 10/3/66 1115EDT Dactylopterus volitans - MS 6"-12" from hyd. NML - BAC House tank - 8ball (-87db) hyd, 4000S Uher.".
