NOTES: LNS notes: Filtered using ZSYS z-Q2, lo shelf, -95 db, 2 KHz. Species present are Lagenorhynchus acutus and Globicephala melas, and possibly L. acutus. See also LNS#s 116243 - 116246. 07Jul2003 SAS. Reel notes: "V. little pilot sound. Funk Island. 0600 Pilot whales mixed with Lag albirostris white beaked. 13 August, 14 August. Saw low blows, following clicks by sound now. BQR-3a 750 ~ H.P. possibly Minke blow, squeals are from pilots near by mixed with porpoise sds. Moved up, see white side Lags acutus with pilots. Mixed now with pilots and Lag acutus is a 3rd species, the Lag albirostris white beaked. Sounds are mixed at first. Lag albirostris appear to have the high-pitched squeals. Sounds on the reels are mixed - wait until bow riders (Lag albirostris) are alone, to obtain separate species sounds. This point starts about 2/3 way thru the reel where 3-4 animals are riding the bow wave for a 3-4 min period. Sounds were few, only clicks, then again the white beaked Lags came in to ride the bow wave, few good sounds (definitely from them) hear others Pilots? in background at times." SEAOCEAN. Other Behaviors: Clicks, Whistles.
