NOTES: 100 songs and one long call of BIRD #3 recorded in two parts at 6:52:20 and 7:00:15; this cut began at 6:22:48 am, after I missed eight songs changing tape; bird went quiet right after previous tape ended, with bird beginning to sing again at 6:19 am, only after a five minute gap in songs, and after it moved back 50 meters; when I got back onto it, the unseen bird was 35-40 meters away, and high up in a densely vegetated crown over the NW corner of trail A8; the bird seemed to be varying the levels of its songs; the bird then moved back to the tree off the end of the road at 6:36:17 am, now only 25 meters up and 25 meters away, but it flew again, back to the east along the logging road, at 6:41:33 am; it was 30-35 meters up overhead near the NE corner of trail A3 when I got back onto it, but it moved again farther to the east after only a few songs; recorder off at 6:44:39 am; after missing four songs, I got back onto bird when it was 30 meters away and 25 meters up in a relatively densely vegetated tree father to the east; it moved again at 6:50:18 am, with recorder on again after missing one song; bird was now farther to the south and east (now about 60 meters away and through vegetation); recorded off at 6:52:20, after which I missed about 15 songs waiting for the bird to return, but eventually turned the recorder back on at 6:57:41 am, even though bird was still relatively far away and I was along Estrada do Gave¿; there is another break in the tape at 6:59:30 am, even though the bird was in same place (45-50 meters away); three songs heard between 7:00:15, after tape ended, and 7:03:11 am; recorded at sustainable logging plot (Bloco A) on west side of Estrada do Gave¿, 2.1 km. N of Estrada do Caing¿ [19¡ 04' 32" S, 39¡ 54Õ 17" W]; largely clear overhead but clouds to the east, calm, 77¡ F; (48//17/7/4//13//7//3//1 Ð single slash indicates movement, double indicates break in tape). ML: Subject changed from recordist's original identification of Xiphorhynchus guttatus guttatus to Xiphorhynchus guttatus [guttatus Group] to conform to eBird Taxonomy (v. 1.55). -Jay McGowan/Matt Medler, July 2015. Other Behaviors: Advertise. Habitat: Rainforest, Evergreen Forest.
