Observation details

Large shorebird, slightly upcurved bill, white rump patch and dark underwings. Thanks to Chuck Weber and Dan O'Malley for ID clarification from photos. The bird was observed at a distance in the field by all of us followed by a discussion of it’s ID. It’s back was toward us and the heat shimmer was tough at that time. We initially thought the bird was the Marbled Godwit we had seen and photographed earlier on the east end of the field. While continuing to scope the field everything flushed, photos were taken and then we saw the reason they flushed - a Peregrine Falcon flew over the field. Reviewing photos after the trip we see now that it was a Hudsonian Godwit rather than the Marbled Godwit we originally thought. The bird never returned to our view after it flushed.
