NOTES: Bird was 18 meters away and 12-15 meters up as it was seen moving about 2/3 of the way up medium-sized trees along road through scrubby forest fragment (with taller trees above); bird crossed back-and-forth over road in response to playback, and was seen very well; bird was at times in the open, but often in dense vegetation in the crowns of the trees; when singing, the bird tipped its bill upward, drooped its wings, and wagged the tail rapidly with each note of the song; the bird was foraging throughout, but sang more after playback (though giving normal song); not only was no female ever seen, but no second bird was ever seen or heard; bird was surprisingly never seen in the taller trees just back from road; partly cloudy, calm, upper 70s to low 80s; plumage was relatively dull and apparently typical of H. r. scapularis, the subspecies to be expected in this region. Response to playback: Approach. Response to playback: Normal song. Other Behaviors: Advertise. Habitat: Rainforest, Evergreen Forest, Second-growth.
