NOTES: First part recorded at 7:29, second part at 7:30 am; though initially a cut of Capito (niger) auratus fighting, the much better part of the recording involved the Rhytipterna; This cut was recorded about 11/2 km. out road; the Rhytipterna was seen sitting on top of tree 35 meters up over my head; original aim was an odd-sounding Capito, which sang only once and then relatively softly; whisper songs and later calls of two males that were well seen; first bird described on a microcassette gave only a muted song; when singing, bird tipped the head down, arched back over, and cocked tail upward; bird cocked and wavered its tail when it gave the chatter call; the Capito was about 35 meters away in tops of the trees; the barbets were fighting, banging their bills together and chattering before one of the birds flew off and the other chased after it. Other Behaviors: Advertise, Fight. Habitat: Rainforest, Evergreen Forest, Edge.
