active nest burrow.
Observation details
male Green Kingfisher was seen carrying minnows and holding them in his beak while perching along a relatively restricted segment of the Lampasas River. nesting was suspected and soon confirmed when a nest burrow was identified along the river's steep (north) bank. the male was observed entering & exiting the burrow entrance on two occasions, each time delivering a 5-8 cm minnow. On one occasion the female had departed the burrow at the moment of the male's arrival, so we assumed the pair was feeding young.
