Observation details
Will add flight photos. Great looks at this bird in flight as it circled at mid range. First tipped off by the black primary tips in a land of white primary tips. Much larger and bulkier than kittiwake; loosely on par with nearby Glaucous Gulls. Next I saw the dark, slaty mantle. So I reached for my camera and lucked out with good flight shots that show a wide trailing white margin to the wings, the "string of pearls" white dots in a ways from the primary tips, and a bit of a beer belly.
