NOTES: Identification provided by Bret M. Whitney. This is a recently described species--see Suiriri islerorum Zimmer, KJ, Whittaker, A, & Oren 2001 Auk 118 pp. 56-78. First segment: calls from a single bird. Second segment: decapitated duet. Third segment: different calls from a single bird. I spent 15-30 minutes following one or both individuals from this cut. At first, only one bird was present (the subject of the first segment), but then a second bird joined the first. When a second bird would fly in and join another bird at the top of a tree, the two birds would often duet and display immediately upon the arrival of the second bird. The display, given while the birds were vocalizing, involved the repeated raising and lowering of the wings by both individuals. Other Behaviors: Perform Visual Display.
