Media notes
This series of recordings starts soon after the audio in ML108572821. I was at least 200 m from the bird. Overall, I would make a brief recording, then try to move about 10-15 m closer, and repeat. The bird was perched in the tree for the entire series except for the 12th (of 14) segment. During that segment, the bird took flight and flew two circles around the perch tree before re-alighting. (You can ID this segment easily as I begin an announcement before I realize the bird was not flying away, and from the airplane). I think a juvenile is audible in the second and third segments.
Observation details
An adult and three first-year juveniles (head and body all dark) were located in a large, partially live snag at the end of the north-south road at the south end of the conservation area. The juveniles flew off fairly early after sighting, leaving just the adult. Two juveniles were in this same tree when I was here on 5 July 2018 (shecklist S47002823). Presumably they were two of the same individuals seen today.
