Media notes
NOTES: I thought I saw this bird clearly and identified it as a Dusky-Crested Flycatcher (Trochocercus nigromitratus. Later recordings of the same or an extremely similar song in the same forest, however, cast doubt that it was really a Dusky-Crested. The only thing I can be definite about is that it was a flycatcher - all or mostly dark in color. Another confusing factor - the Grey Longbill (an excellent mimic) gives a similar call at least in West Africa (David Moyer).; The flycatcher I was watching while making this recording was flying back and forth every few minutes in the understory - at one point carrying nest material in its bill. [ID'd to 98% confidence by McBride. 20June2001.mf]. Habitat: Forest, Evergreen Forest, Swamp.
