Observation details
Likely a very conservative count. Well-defined dark breast bands, fluttery flight, and narrow notched tails noted. The most commonly detected swallows on the survey this time, a very notable change from previous surveys. Seen or heard in flight at least 20 times. We located a colony on a ca 2.5 m high, vertical, S-facing bank of the stream about 100 m upstream of the boundary fence in reach 4. Saw 2 BANS fly out from burrows; counted 51 burrows, none present during surveys in early May. On a bank that was substantially eroded in the flooding this spring. Additionally, a few more (BANS?) holes seen in 2 other banks, 1 on either side of the red culverts in reach 4. No swallow activity observed around these holes.
