Observation details
continuing rarity first reported by Neysa and Don on July 11th, at the Lincoln/Jefferson corner a bit west of the blue dumpster. The bird was actively feeding, diving just below the surface for periods of 5-10 seconds, often with little or no break in-between dives. An adult Mallard with 12+ ducklings harassed the Whistling-Duck, and then a Pied-billed Grebe nipped at it, and it moved a dozen feet away and continued feeding. Occasional soft "meep" sound. Mostly cinnamon color, dark line going down back of neck, white lines on flanks, back was darker brown with cinnamon lines. Front of neck looked dirty whitish, grey bill. photos.
