Observation details
At first, the bird just stood on its left leg with back toward us. We stared at its rear end and appreciated its short dark tail, uppertail “crescent”, dark brown back with buff feather edges, and pale flank steaks. Once the bird got into water, it frequently dived for about 10 seconds a time. Wanted to see it spreading its wings but never got the chance. All the time the bird was 20-30 meters away but appeared relaxed.
