Media notes
Recording of a Vesper Sparrow, identified by sight, singing only a rendition of Field Sparrow dawn song. These recordings were made well after the Field Sparrows in the area had ceased singing dawn song. This particular Vesper Sparrow must have learned the Field Sparrow dawn song as his only song. There were no other vocalization heard from this individual bird. This would be similar to Don Kroodsma's experience with a male Vesper Sparrow that was singing Bewick's wren song (Kroodsma, D. E. 1972. Variations in songs of Vesper Sparrows in Oregon. The Wilson Bulletin 84:173-178). Response to playback: Approach. Response to playback: Normal song. Other Behaviors: Advertise.
