Media notes
taken on 7/12/18, but this is a shot of the one of the more advanced HY birds. This bird was presumably fledged in mid-May (see 5-22-2018 ebird report for same location)
Observation details
Five (5) juvenile juncos seen together this evening at seed; two appear to be from an earlier clutch, molting into adult type plumage with developing dark hoods and tan backs. Three still have streaked breasts and sandy colored heads, pink bills. Vocalizing a sharp "tik" note. All have white outer tail feathers. Also two adults seen nearby, Male seen feeding mealworms to one juvenile. I believe two pairs are present, but not sure if one pair has two clutches or if both pairs each has one clutch apiece. Laguna Niguel, DEJU capital of south OC! Who woulda thunk it.
