Observation details
All adults in alternate plumage, with the orange underparts fading to white at the lower belly, but the photo shows some orange on the lower belly as well. Dark-spotted upper breasts. They spent all their time resting and preening on the mudflats, but near the outfall of the Whitewater, so habitat was not helpful in identification. Comments welcome. July 13 postscript: C. Marantz commented that the long bill, presence of orange feathers on the lower belly and dark back all lead to Long-billed Dowitcher. I had originally listed them as Short-billed/Log-billed.
