Observation details

Continuing bird in the same territory as when it was discovered on Saturday (6/29). Seen well and lots of audio recorded. Walked to its territory quite far off the trail and I believe I’ve pinpointed the area. Habitat was mixed coniferous and deciduous forest (60/40 respectively). Lots of dense low spruces/balsams (roughly 1-3 meters high) and some low shrubby ground cover in open areas. The forest floor in the open areas were predominately mossy while it was leafy and bare under the areas of dense conifers. Canopy height was roughly 10-15 meters. The habitat also lay on the edge of a wooded peat moss bog. The bird sang on and off from high perches and quietly foraged along the ground. Sang without the use of a playback for almost the entirety of my stay there. Used a playback only when I was ready to leave. The bird reacted defensively; actively searching for the source of playback and singing really quiet versions of its song when it got close. Unfortunately, I did not find any other evidence of breeding. I will try to find some more time soon to collect any more observations I can on this bird while it is still here.
