Observation details
At 10:45 Larry heard the bird call from trees high above the adjacent condos. We quickly got on to the bird moments before it flew right over our heads landing on a low branch perhaps only two feet above the ground and only some 60 feet from our location. The Nutting's remained there for at least twenty minutes allowing us time to study and photograph the bird. We did not venture any closer to the bird fearing it might be flushed. The tree the bird was on is located on the left side of a small depression in the ground directly behind the first clump of willow trees at the junction of the gravel pathway and the cement walkway that leads up to the Hillgate/Rockview Road entrance to the park. The upperparts were brown that extended up the nape to a brownish cap. Underparts were fairly bright yellow with a pale gray throat and chest. The gray was noted to extend up the side of the neck like a partial collar that contrasted with the brown auriculars. The wings were dark with two faint wing bars. Noted were the outer webs of the primaries that were edged a rusty colour and yellow to the edges to the outermost secondaries. While studying the bird it opened it's mouth several times revealing it's orange mouth. The second time it did so, to my total amazement, the bird spit out a long narrow something that may have been the tail of a lizard.
