Media notes
Great Skua high right with a Pom lower left and a Gt Shear middle. This was a large bird as can be seen although perspective may be difficult. Proportionately, to me at least, this is a Great Skua. South Polar would look lighter built with a smaller head and longer tail, also the wing flashes should have been less bold in South Polar although there is some digital flare due to the conditions. I decided to re-submit after spending some time working on a skuas following the Pubnico pelagic of 2017 and a second South Polar seen on that trip that raised ID questions. During the process I read more widely on the differences between Great and South Polar and viewed many images showing especially structure and dimensions of both.
Observation details
I should have submitted this as a Great at the time as that was what I always thought it was. Inside the reasonable viewing distance of c1km in poor conditions.
