Observation details
While this bird appears to be a female at first blush due to the lack of any obvious white hear the front of the face behind the bill, the totally black bill and light-colored breast may indicate a second-year male that has not undergone molt into adult plumage. That this bird is continuing is evidenced by it being in the exact location where a similarly-plumaged Common Goldeneye was present two weeks ago. Photos.
