Brown-headed cowbirds foraging in pine treetop.
Observation details
I was trying to photograph cedar waxwings who were foraging a bit lower, when my attention was captured by the cowbirds. I had never seen them actually foraging in a tree before; I am more used to seeing them, as a yard bird pest scrambling around on the ground with the European starlings. They appeared to be having difficulty maintaining their balance on these slender shoots, and periodically would flap their wings wildly to stabilize themselves again.
