Media notes
Male flying over a frailejonal, plumage in a very good condition, juvenile.
Observation details
One male juvenile (typical juvenile plumage first year based in Restall et al 2006 and Ferguson Lees and Christie 2005 plumage descriptions) seen in a extensive zone of " low frailejonal " of Espeletia sp and Puya sp in one of the borders of the martos wetland. Especifically in one part which represents a series of hills which are adyacent to the basin of a past lake " Guasca lake". This lake was drained in different epochs by spanish conquerors searching for gold and after for a private owner (Martos) for keeping pasture for cows. Now the ecosystem is in an alternative stable state, because channels have not allowed to the lake to recover its original level, due to costant draining. Now you find a wetland with a mosaic of different vegetation types as frailejonales, puya stands and aquatic vegetation.
