Observation details
The ID is between Connecticut/Mourning. I originally had this pegged as a CONW in the field as the bird was walking in the understory for a minute or so, strutting and picking insects from under taller plants with wide leaves. Long undertail coverts noted but may not be useful without direct comparison. The eye looked very odd on one side of the face, like there may have been an injury, as it looked dark at times. On the other side there is a distinct white eye ring but it is not as complete and as bold as I would like for a CONW. The GISS just feels off for MOWA although that seems to be the consensus. No vocalizations were heard.
