NOTES: This species is split and this is Anthus nyassae. Calling in flight until landed and was well seen. Note by Linda Macaulay: This was recorded in 1995 in Gabon, West Africa. We had a range extension north for the species. It was identified by sight and sound by Ian Sinclair. At the time is was listed in Distribution & Taxonomy (Sibley & Monroe) as a separate species with a note that it differs morphologically and ecologically from A. similis (Hall & Moreau 1970:40; Clancey 1985b). Birds of the World 2000 (James Clements) listed it as a race of A. similis but update of December 15, 2004 split the bird into a separate species. LNS: Subject changed from Anthus similis to A. nyassae to reflect current taxonomy. -Matt Medler, 26 January 2011. Habitat: Grassland.
