NOTES: Recordist's notes at beginning of recording: And now the ordinary crying and screaming given by infants. Occasionally, I would get little fear squeaks when the infants saw me and they were separate from their mothers, and then they ran back to their mothers. And in the case when the mother was being sexually assaulted by a large wild male, accompanying infants would scream and cry. But the most common instance was when infants were separate from their mothers, wanted physical contact with their mothers, or wanted to be carried when mothers were traveling but the mothers didn't want them to climb on at the moment - then they would really scream and get quite worked up with sort of cramps. I have two recordings made in the rehabilitation center of infants who wanted to cling to partners but couldn't. I play these because they are clearer than wild recordings where the pitch of the screams mixes in with the insect noises of the forest and it's very difficult to hear what's going on. But after hearing the first 2 recordings, it should be possible to make out the wild crying and screaming infants.
