NOTES: This species is Dicrurus sumatranus split from D. balicassius. It was seen high in the canopy but came lower in response to playback LNS Note: Some researchers have placed sumatranus as a subspecies of balicassius, and others have classified it as its own unique species. I have placed it under D. hottentottus, following Peters Birds of the World. JN 17 April 2006 Note by Linda Macaulay: This was recorded in 1995 in Sumatra, Indonesia. We identified it by range, and visual identification confirmed by Dennis Yong of Malaysia who was with us. At the time it was listed in Distribution & Taxonomy (Sibley & Monroe) as a separate species - Dicrurus (balicassius) sumatranus. It is also listed as a separate species in Birds of the World 2000 (James Clements).
