No. of Animals/Sex: 2 adults, 2 males, female(s). Recordist's Tape #73A. Bkground Sounds: Village Sounds, Canis familiaris, Pteropus rodricensis, Foudia flavicans. Field Recorder: Stellavox Sp 7. Cut length: 8:46.) Playback of the initial section of "canopy singing" (i.e. an individual male seeks a high point in the top of a Eugenia jambos and sings), evoked a significant response from all the nearby males and some aggressive "boundary" disputes ending on one occasion with "physical" contact. (The purr-trill is mate contact.) I was also still watching the male and female at the nest.
Field annotations included.
HPF 220 Hz.
CAT. NO. 74610, SECOND PART A: Date: 5 Nov. 1974. Identified by sight and sound. Confidence in ID: 100%. Specimen not collected.No. of Animals/Sex: 3 adults, 3 males, 1 female? Sound Category: Song, call. Field Recorder: Stellavox Sp. 7. Cut Length: 8:46.) During the "physical" encounter two individuals were clasped together and fell to the ground where they remained for three to four minutes (males?). During this a single individual (female?) was above uttering soft call notes, showing (her) wings all the while the two were on the ground, (it is possible that it was a (3rd) male as it uttered short song phrases--or the female could sing in such stress situation.
Field annotations included.
CAT. NO. 74610, PART B. Note the immediate follow-on cut i.e. 74A master tape was edited this last year to LNS 72268-70-71. Time: 1005/1120. Date: 05 Nov. 1974. Identified by sight and sound. Bkground Sounds: Foudia flavacans, Geopelia striata, Acridotheres tristis, Homo sapiens in village, Souidae sp., Pteropus rodricensis. No. of Animals/Sex: 2 males? 1 female. Range Status: Normal, HIGHLY ENDANGERED. Sound Category: Song, call. Stimulus for Sound: Natural (no playback), then playback own song. Behav. Context: Advertising, mate contact. Field Recorder: Stellavox Sp. 7. Cut length: 11:22.) The calls/songs of the male and female at the nest after the ground encounter--when the two birds on the ground just got up. Both male and female work at nest construction but female "shapes" the nest and does most of the "lining." 10:05: (73B) Individuals "canopy singing" -- unseen. The nearer sounds are from the nest pair as they came and went to the nest. One, the female, was wing shivering and "soliciting" field annotations included: 1050 is Part C starts. HPF 220 Hz.
CAT No. 74610, PART C: Date: 05 Nov. 1974. Identified by sight and sound. Confidence in ID: 100%. Specimen not collected. [Recordist indicates that Bio and Behavior data is same "As Part A." Since there are two parts labeled A, it is not clear what data should be entered here. - AF]. Field Recorder: Stellavox Sp. 7. Cut length: 7:54.) This cut Part C represents the male and female at the nest (we found!). Many close calls of the pair constructing the nest. The cut which does follow this cut (the immediately succeeding cut) is LNS 72268 (edited in 1995)! This Part C ends at 11:20 and cut 72268 starts at 11:20 (the cut in here to edit a few cuts of this sp. in 1995) finished 1996!!!
