NOTES: (Time 0700 +/-. Bkground Sounds: Domestic fowls! Human habitation sounds! Breeding Status: Territorial paired, breeding. Stimulus for Sound: Natural (no playback), then playback own song. Behav. Context: Threat, nest site defense.) A pair were constructing a nest near the D'Hotmann (hunting) hut where I was based. The male was extremely territorial and attacked any other bird that came near. Males have a "display flight" when he flies with exaggerated wing movements, the head thrown up and back, the tail held straight--it will dive into a tree--this can be accompanied by vocalizations but can also be silent. The aggressive call is heard as the male attacked "2 Bulbuls."
