NOTES: Neotropical Institute Cut #40. Bulk reel #514. 203 tape. LN. a) 10 Oct 1974. 6:45 AM to 7:15 AM. Weather: Cloudy, fair. Natural song. (This is the male of Nest #74-5, cf. separate notes. He may be a young male; not very dark and apparently somewhat "reddish.") Quality: 3 to 1-2. Level: +3. [Separate note:] When this bird sings, and I noticed it also with the bird at km 11 (as well as on former occasions with other birds), it opens its bill fairly widely and the pink to magenta inside of mouth shows clearly; sometimes it tilts its head back slightly, too. Sporophila nigricollis in background. b) 12 Oct 1974. 10:50 AM. Weather: Fair. Natural song, same bird. (The final section (three phrases) was ~5' after unintentional playback of two phrases. The bird did not react noticeably. Quality: 2 to 1-2. Level: +3. c) 15 Oct 1974. 9:25 AM. Weather: Bright cloudy. Natural song, same bird. The final two phrases are after playback. Qualitiy: 2. Level: +3.
