NOTES: Neotropical Institute Cut #FL-14. Bulk reel #499
Song type 1 = SO-SOO-la; 2 = SO-SO-LA; 3 = SO-LAA.
Weather: High haze ~ cloudy.
a) 11 June 1974. 6:50 PM. Some, most, or all, of these birds may be same as in first part of Cut FL-13, but now recorded from somewhat closer.
>3 type 1 and >2 type 2. Quality: 3. Level: +3. 3.75 ips. LN. 203 tape.
Then a type 1-2 (almost 3) bird close, no doubt brought closer by my whistled imitations and no doubt as a result its voice sometimes breaks. Print through. Quality: 1. Level: 0. 3.75 & 7.5 ips. LN. 203 tape.
7:05 PM. One of the other type 1 birds a little closer. Quality: 2+. Level: +3. 3.75 ips. LN. 203 tape.
Then the same type 1-2 (almost 3) again, its first phrase is incomplete, others are not normally developed. Quality: 2. Level: [blank]. 3.75 ips. LN. 203 tape.
Next AM in this same spot a bird decoyed to my whistles and was collected = male #[blannk]. It did not sing but I suspect it was this same bird: no other birds were singing either.
b)13 June 1974. ~10:00 AM. Weather: Clear. Type 1 bird, fairly close; apparently not the bird of third section above. Quality: 1-2. Level: +3. 139 tape. 3.75 ips. Std.
No birds singing this AM nor did any respond vocally to my whistles trying to get them started, so after 8:45 I went into woods 100 m. or so E of where the type 1-2 bird had been. Remained in woods over an hour whistling type 1 and type 2 phrases. No bird responded and if any approached, I didn't see it. However, I wasn't out of woods more than 3-5 minutes when a bird started singing very close to where I had been in the woods. However, this bird was very shy and when I tried to get closer to record better, even though I was outside woods, it moved farther away.
