NOTES: Neotropical Institute Cut # 1. Bulk reel: 422
Note: 18/2/72, Pica San Carlos-Solano, Terr. Amazonas: Song is something like that of C. torquatus but the quality is not as "ringing," is more formicariid-like [recordist drew four representations of the sound here] = approximate notation. A male collected had a number of ants on the tail, apparently feeding from the resin on the bird's tail feathers (symbiosis or accidental?). Weather: Cloudy, fair. Various phrases by this woodpecker; also whistled imitations by PAS. Because of the latter, the bird's phrases are not typical, especially in the last part. Quality: 2-3. Level: +3. 203 tape.
The first, second, and third may be ~ typical.
Faint in background are song and rattle calls by Attila citriniventris.
