NOTES: Neotropical Institute Cut # 55. Bulk reel: 382
Arrive 5:35 AM, clear. ~ 5:37 first display, no vocalization heard; then there were some whistles, then a display. Then, a couple displays later the displaying bird (male) apparently alighted right next to another bird (female) (He may have on other occasions, too, but I wasn't aware of it) and one bird (female) whined while other (male) whistled (recorded). After some minutes of this the whistling bird displayed and in planing after the display it circled back to same place from where he started.
This exact same sequence was repeated again ~ 5 minutes later but ~ 100 m. away. Although I didn't see the birds move (they were always out of my line of sight), I presume the female moved and the male followed. After this three more displays to 6:00 AM.
Just as I had finished loading my equipment in truck, @ 6:25 AM I heard whining sounds just like those recorded and found a pair of birds feeding in a cecropia. The whining sounds were coming from the smaller bird of the two, presumably the female.
Whining calls by one bird (presumably female) and ascending whistles by other bird (presumably male); then a display (by the whistling bird, for the whining bird remained in focus). Quality: 3. Level: 0.
