NOTES: Neotropical Institute Cut # 6. Bulk reel: 340 First, natural song. Quality: 1. Level: +5. Brown tape. Then, after playback: song and calls. (This bird, presumably the male, was shot but escaped. However, the female which was with him was collected: #5143.) Good calls of Atalotriccus [Lophotriccus] pilaris and song of Myrmeciza longipes prominent in background, then Vireo olivaceus. This cont. with Reel 2. Note: For song of B. auricapillus from Brazil, currently considered as B. culicivorus (cf. 1966, p. 452, de Schauensee), see recordings filed under Misc. Parulidae - BRAZIL. The Venezuelan birds south of Orinoco are considered to belong to the auricapillus group and in fact my Cut 6 under culicivorus sounds more like the Brazil recording than like the N. Central Venezuela culicivorus. This should be checked into further.
