NOTES: Neotropical Institute Cut # 8. Bulk reel: 274; Extra cut(s) on bulk reel: 275; Extra cut length: :43Weather: Cloudy, fair.a) 6:45 AM. This is again the different type song as in the beginning of Cut 7. Quality: 2, 1-2. Level: +5. 175 tape. This seems as if it could be a type of dawn song, perhaps related to some particular phase of the annual cycle. This recording was made on the "south" side of the paramo. Several birds here gave this song at dawn, but not later. Playback of this recording, which was rather weak and birds already some distance away, brought no reaction.Note: The birds on the "north" side of the paramo did not give this dawn song (Cut 9), except that on one occasion one did so briefly at ~ 7:15 AM as result of playback of other song, but it quickly changed to other song again. Then some normal two-figure "song" a little while later. Quality: 2. Level: +5. 203 tape.(Near end are some songs of Dubusia taeniata.)b) 9:55 AM. Weather: Fair. Natural two- and three-figure "song." Quality: 2. Level: +5. 203 tape.(Pair of birds which before recording was singing two-figure phrases; then injected occasional three-figure phrase and finally quite a few of them; no apparent reason, perfectly natural.)
