Weather: Cloudy, fair. Heavy fog during night.
a)6:32 AM. ~ 1' after female emerged from nest, male gave "series purr" call to which female responded with quiet whistles. Male later gave the "bother" (alarm, conflict ?). Female continued tossing leaves, whistling at times; she then flew to join male and their meeting "conversation" is heard (a short blank section represents 30" when the birds could not be heard. Quality: 2-. Level: +3. Nagra SN, AKG. LN. No parabola.
6:40 AM. Birds down slope sang, answered shortly by the nesting pair. 5 min. later birds down slope sang again but nesting pair did not answer. Quality: 2-. Level: +3.
b) 10:28 AM. Cloudy, bright. Vocalizations @ time female returned to nest. (Mike placed @ site of beginning of final approach path @ upper end of stage; distance from mike to bird where it passes ~ 50 m.). Recording begins when female already @ mike position and for first ~ 10" all vocalizations are apparently by female. At ~ 10" the first "whup-up" call of male is heard. After this the calls of female become fainter (she paused for >1/2 min. @ turn up to nest) and those of male a bit louder as he apparently came closer to mike position (male's calls are "whup-up" and single "purr", perhaps some of the other calls too but I think they are by the female). Quality: 1-. Level: +3. N-IV, Senn 405. No parabola. LN. 203 tape.
c) 10:40 AM. Vocalization by male when he passed by the blind as he left his waiting area near nest. Quality: 2+. Level: +3. Nagra SN & AKG. No parabola. 203 tape. LN. Copied SN to N-4.2.
