NOTES: Neotropical Institute Cut # 27. Bulk reel: 205; piping; piping; Extra cut(s) on bulk reel: 206; Extra cut length: 11:08a) 5:50 AM. Weather: Clear. Activity this AM was ~ normal but confused due to traffic interference. However a conflict situation apparently developed which is here recorded. In the latter part some "courtship growling" is heard. This was taking place on west slope of mid-ridge, up near junction of west ridge and mid ridge. Quality: 2-3 (noise!). Level: +3, 0. 7.5 & 3.75 ips. After this two birds were seen to fly from here to west ridge, but another bird remained.6:05 AM. While I was changing reels of tape there must have been movement by the birds that I didn't see, for in a few minutes the conflict developed again. Quality: 2. Level: 0. 3.75 & 7.5 ips. LN. 203 tape.6:30 AM. Then focus on pair (more than two birds?) on west ridge. Quality: 2+. Level: +3. 3.75 & 7.5 ips.During this interval five birds flew (planed) out from the region of conflict, one after another, and over several minutes time, and went over to the west ridge. The "flight scream" at end of first part was the fourth or fifth bird to cross. There was always one bird (= sixth) on mid-ridge.Note: Heard two flight displays (and another, by a different bird?), but no calling at ~ 6:15 AM of 21 Feb 1973 by old km 34, ~ = new km 31.29 May 1970. km 35+. Weather: Clear. Arrived 5:25 AM: first activity ~ 5:35 AM. Only activity noticed was some displays and "growl calls" (presumably by male); also the activilty ws not very much and had finished before 5:45 AM.10 June 1970. km 35+. Cloudy, fair. Limited activity, none in any usual observation area.31 July 1970. km 35+. Cloudy, fair. No activity noted. (All bird activity seems considerably depressed below what it should be for this time of year.)
