NOTES: Neotropical Institute Cut # 25. Bulk reel: 205
Two displays, apparently by same bird (both messed up by extraneous sounds). Quality: 2. Level: +3.
Some "growling" calls. Quality: 2-3 (cicada noise). Level: +3.
12/V/70 Arrived @Km35+ @5:25AM, clear. Calls and display from lower down slope (i.e. to north) @5:38AM. Then a display up the ravine between west and mid ridges; then several other displays involving at least two birds: two displays by a nearer bird are saved (=Cut 25); in the first it moved from west to mid ridge, in the second, on the mid ridge. Then another bird made a display flight (not saved due to noise) from west to mid ridge, almost same path of the first display of first bird (which was still in my view, where it had alighted after its second (recorded) display). Then some "growling" sounds made first by the second bird, then by the first bird, which then flew with a display (just as truck passed by). NOTE: This display started after bird ~20m away from perch; the wing beats did not seem any, or much, deeper than in normal flight. Also noted that its dewlap was not hanging down to full contour.
The second bird displayed again. My impression is that there are two males displaying for one female. No further activity that I could observe.
14/V/70 cloudy fair 5:55AM First noticed activity at ~5:38AM: two displays up at junction of west and mid ridges; on later occasions several displays heard @ same place up to ~5:50AM.
