NOTES: Neotropical Institute Cut # 4. Bulk reel: 204
Same place [as in Cuts 2,3, reel 1 LNS 63680 and 63681]. The birds were apparently on their way to roost. I don't know how many there were but more than three or four, although I could never seem to see more than two or three simultaneously. Quality: 2. Level: +5. [Recordist did not indicate type of microphone used. He indicated that he used a parabola but did not specify make/model.]
These particular sounds (= "quack-growls") seemed to be part of a display but I don't know if sexual or "territorial" (i.e. seeking dominance for roosting) but the first might seem more likely as the birds kept moving slowly through the trees. The bird giving the sounds at times bowed and erected its crest.
