NOTES: Breeding status: territorial

Notes: Marginal recording - some feeding noises. dh on data form

BNA: The "Call Note" (sometimes decribed as the "Double Call") is heard, often written as "pee-dink", "peek-it" or "pitit". Some tapping is also heard. Possibly also the Rattle Call (rapid "peek-peek-peek") is also heard towards the end. CZ 24/02/2004.

[This recording begins with three good examples of the Double Call (0:065-0:125) and the sounds of the bird rummaging around on the bark, these followed by another Double Call (0:505). The second part of the recording begins with more rummaging and ends with a series of Rattle Calls given when the bird flew off (2:27-2:33), the first and last calls somewhat abbreviated. I believe the single-note calls at 0:27, 1:005, 1:03 were given by Picoides villosus. Quality added (2-1 - for the first three calls) - CAM - 20 April 2005]
