NOTES: In the process following Great Gray Owls in the Bridger-Teton National Forest, I encountered a pine marten. As it is just after dawn, I assume the owls were going to roost in the forest. The pine marten moved up a tree trunk with a few dead stubs on it where it continued to vocalize. Two owls came in to the same tree, apparently curious aout the marten, landing on a small dead stub just a few meters above the marten. The marten alternately scolded me and scolded the two owls. The two calls heard in this brief sequence were given spontaneously by one of the several owls that were present just as I completed the voice announcement for the marten recording. These two calls are the only examples of this particular vocalization that morning.
