NOTES: Neotropical Institute Cut # 1. Bulk reel: 77
Note that these vocalizations are rather similar in quality but very different in phrasing from those of the Andes (which are not definitely identified). However, a whistled imitation of those seemed to bring ~ same reaction from these as did imitation of its own calls. Quality: 2. Level: 0. Definite identification 27/VII/70. Copy from orig. @ 15". Filt. 100/5000 Hz.
Note: Cuts 1/3 are filed under this sp. temporarily. I don't know what else they could be, but the song is so different from the birds around Rancho Grande that I feel they must be a different species. Unfortunately I was not able to collect one of these birds. However the Andes bird is recognized as a different race and I wouldn't be surprised if it were a different species.
The Rancho Grande birds seemed at times to be a bit interested in my whistled imitation of the Andes birds, but mostly not.
Note: 26/II/69 - For additional calls of this type from Cano El Teteo, Tachira, see Misc. Ambient Cut 103; also Aburria aburri Cut #10.
