NOTES: Neotropical Institute Cut # 2. ends stong cut; Bulk reel: 72.
a) This is by the rancho and therefore probably same bird as in Cut 1a). A bird was giving "Bawl calls" too far away to record. I played 1b) and bird came flying in giving "oo-ooo"s. Some of this was recorded (poorly and not saved) and played back and the bird then flew to a near tree and gave "oo-oo-oo" while sitting. Quality: 2. Level: +10.
b) 2:45 AM. Clear, moon. Some of a) was played and bird flew to another tree and after a while gave "Bawl calls." Quality: 1-2. Level: +5.
c) 3:15 AM. Clear, moon. Bird had ceased "singing" while I was trying to record an owl. I then tried playback of b) and bird came to another tree, fairly close and sang "bawls." Quality: 1. Level: +5.
d) I played back some of that "song" and bird flew to a new tree and some "quiet oo-oo-oo"s which came out more "roos" or [illegible] two of which are recorded. Quality: 1. Level: +5.
e) As bird then became silent I played some "bawls" again and bird flew back to same tree as in c). I recorded some but didn't save it due to human interference from the people in the "rancho" (the calls of this bird apparently molested them). However, I played back that recording and bird flew back to same tree as Cut d) and gave some +/- normal "oorroos" while sitting there. Quality: 1. Level: +5.
It then flew to another tree and sang "bawls." In the background at one place is heard a song that I later identified as belonging to Herpetotheres cachinnans. The Potoo's songs in the last part are not @ natural intervals. Quality: 1. Level: +5.
f) I now played some of the last recording "songs" and bird flew to a new tree and sang "bawls." In the first part there are more quiet (a reaction typical of many birds after playback). Quality: 1. Level: +10.
